Some of our clients biggest concerns are:

  1. I don’t want my child to blow all the money they inherit right away. We always tell clients the best way to ruin a great kid is by giving them tons of money. We work with clients to put a plan in place to help their children. One way we do this is to stagger their disbursements from a trust at certain ages. We usually allow the child to ask the trustee for money at any time for certain purposes. For example, if

Scale of Ukraine War ‘Out of Proportion’ With NATO Planning: Cavoli

  • NATO leaders have been worried by the heavy casualties and massive ammunition usage in Ukraine.
  • “The scale of this war is out of proportion with all of our recent thinking,” NATO’s top general said in January.

The heavy casualties and massive consumption of ammunition seen during the war in Ukraine worried top NATO commanders.

NATO was created in 1949 to stop a massive Soviet invasion of Western Europe, and it has added new members since the end of the Cold War, but many of its militaries shrank in the decades after the Soviet threat disappeared. Now the scale and intensity of the fighting in Ukraine has raised questions about the alliance’s ability to fight a big-unit war against Russia.

Family’s heartbreak as ‘healthy’ 14-month-old puppy dies while residing at puppy training camp

A devastated family is mourning the ‘unexpected’ loss of their 14-month-old puppy after his week-long stay at a dog training facility.

Sisters Christina and Celia Zazzarino from Sydney, owned a ‘completely healthy’ dog called Wiston (Winnie), but he started to ‘become a bit of a handful’.

The siblings decided to opt for professional training while the dog was still young, and so searched for a training facility online.

The facility is based in Sydney and has ‘good reviews,’ according to the sisters. They arranged for Winnie to stay at the camp for two weeks.

The family told A Current Affair that they took the pup to the vet the day before dropping him off to the facility and were told he was ‘completely healthy’. But just over a week later, he was dead.

Winnie was adored by his owners, but needed some training as he had become a 'handful'

BMI is an ‘imperfect’ way to measure health. But replacing it is complicated

Vishal Gentle isn’t the avid gym-goer he was before his daughter was born a few months ago.

But the new dad said he does what he can to stay active — carrying the baby up and down the stairs to get a bit of a workout, lots of walking and using a stand-up desk.

Gentle said he feels healthy, but according to the body mass index, or BMI, he’s overweight.

“Honestly, I don’t feel overweight. I mean, except a little bit near my waist. But like I’m fully active. I can do anything and everything,” he said during an interview at his Toronto home.

Gentle isn’t alone when it comes to questioning if his BMI is an accurate way of measuring health. The BMI is under growing scrutiny — both for its usefulness as a measure of health and for its problematic origins.

BMI is calculated by dividing weight in

More States Drop Sales Tax on Disposable Diapers to Boost Affordability

Shirley Bloxom can’t forget the pride-swallowing shame she felt asking friends and church members for financial help.

After the surgery left her husband partially paralyzed, he needed to use disposable underwear at least three times a day, said Bloxom, 72. Living on a fixed income, the couple couldn’t afford them.

Bloxom’s husband is among the estimated 2.5 million older Floridians who use incontinence products, such as pads and adult diapers, daily. But with over a tenth of the Sunshine State’s seniors living in poverty, many struggle to pay for the supplies they need.

Last month, Florida joined a growing number of states that are banning sales taxes on diapers to make them more affordable for older adults and families with young children. Florida is one of the United States’ top three destination states for retirees, with about 21% of its residents age 65 or older.

CDC recommends RSV shots, enabling vaccinations to begin this fall for older adults

Pfizer and GSK have a green light to distribute their RSV vaccines to older adults, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday.

That made the two vaccines the first for RSV to become publicly available in the US

The shots are expected to roll out in the fall — before the next RSV season, which typically peaks in the winter — the CDC said.

Last week, an advisory committee to the CDC decided that adults ages 65 and up may get one of the newly FDA-approved RSV vaccines in consultation with doctors. The committee voted 9-5 in favor of the recommendation.

The group also voted to recommend shots for adults ages 60 to 64 based on individual risk levels and in consultation with doctors.

The CDC’s director, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, endorsed the panel’s recommendations Thursday — the final step before the shots could become available to the public.

Many will likely glance at this column and think hypertension doesn’t apply to them, but the numbers tell a different story. In Canada, one in five people are living with high blood pressure without even knowing it.

Why is this? Unlike many other illnesses, hypertension – also known as high blood pressure – often doesn’t have symptoms and sadly goes undetected. So, while heart health may not be high on the priority list, it should be.

Tina Turner health issues: Singer opened up about kidney disease 2 months before death

Two months prior to her death this week at age 83Tina Turner opened up about having put herself “in great danger” over her health.

For International World Kidney Day on March 9, the music superstar warned his social media followers about the importance of keeping an eye on your kidney health, especially since the kidneys can begin to fail without pain.

“Show your kidneys love! They deserve it. My kidneys are victims of my not realizing that my high blood pressure should have been treated with conventional medicine,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “I have put myself in great danger by refusing to face the reality that I need daily, lifelong therapy with medication. For far too long I believed that my body was an untouchable and indestructible bastion.”

According to the National Kidney Foundation, people may not notice kidney failure at first, as symptoms often develop slowly.

Itchy Eyes? How to Tell if it’s the Arcturus COVID Strain or Allergies

  • This month federal health organizations released an additional booster vaccine to individuals at greatest risk for COVID-19 as doctors and scientists are closely monitoring the new Arcturus variant of COVID or XBB.1.16.
  • The Arcturus strain can present with a new symptom – conjunctivitis.
  • Conjunctivitis is irritation of the eye and the eyelid – oftentimes associated with viruses, allergies, or bacterial infections.

While many of the previous strains of COVID-19 have presented with classic symptoms of cough, congestion, body aches, and loss of smell, there is a new strain called Arcturus, which can present a novel symptom – conjunctivitis.

“There are two distinctive characteristics of Arcturus,” says Dr. William Schaffner, an infectious disease expert at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

“First, fever has not been a predominant feature of COVID, but it is with this strain. Also, the other distinguishing feature is conjunctivitis or, as some people call it,
