Most physician employment agreements have substantial termination provisions. You need to know what yours says regarding termination with and without cause, what notice is required, and what other provisions will be triggered by termination.

Many times, employment agreements have an expiration date. Award-winning idea aims to produce healthy sugar substitute for diabetics

A start-up company is working to get a sugar substitute to market, which if approved, they say will provide a healthier alternative particularly for diabetics. And it’s made from unused production byproducts.

Biofect Innovations won the Agri-Tech Pitch Competition in Guelph this year. The company has found a way to turn things like lactose, starch and glycerol into a protein-based sweetener called brazzein, which is several thousand times sweeter than sugar, and they say it’s healthier too.

“The core mission for us is to create something that doesn’t just satisfy the sweet tooth, it also needs to satisfy the health,” said Christian Delos Santos, the co-founder and CEO.

Their method won them the prize worth $10,000 in March as part of the Agri-Tech Pitch Competition that was hosted by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the University of Guelph’s Research Innovation Office.

The secret to why exercise is so good for mental health? ‘Hope molecules’ | Devi Sridar

Exercise, in whatever form, and for however long, it just makes life feel better. I feel it myself after a walk up Arthur’s Seat here in Edinburgh, a jog around the Meadows, or a sweaty hot yoga session in Leith. The physical benefits of movement such as lowered blood pressure, reduced risk of diabetes and cancer, and healthy aging, are well-known, and we’re beginning to understand more about the mental health benefits as well.

One of the most interesting health research projects of the past decade or so has looked at how exactly exercise makes us feel good. Research shows that there appears to be a clear scientific reason, that we can see at a cellular level. When muscles contract, they secrete chemicals into the bloodstream. Among these chemicals are myokines, which have been referred to as “hope molecules”. These small proteins travel to the brain, cross the blood-brain

Even if you’ve never been physically active, you can start moving now and see benefits.

That’s according to a new study, which found that any amount of physical activity starting at any age is helpful for long-term cognitive health.

Researchers already know that people who participate in physical activity in their leisure time have a lower risk for dementia and higher cognitive function later in life than those who are inactive, said study author Dr. Sarah-Naomi James, a research fellow at the MRC Unit for Lifelong Health and Aging at University College London.

What researchers didn’t know was whether there was a specific time in life by which a person needed to get active or if there was an activity threshold they needed to meet
